Relationship (Redux)

Lucas rolled out of bed bright and early Monday morning and extended his arm to wake his lover. “Baby, wake up, we’re going to be late,” he said as he reached for his underwear with his other hand. He then realized that no one was next to him. He got up and quickly dressed himself in the clothes he wore Friday night. Ronnie was already dressed and putting on her earrings in a final act to prepare for work.

He smirked, looking at her in a different light than he did before the weekend began.

“Why are you looking at me that way?” she asked.

“I don’t know. It’s the first time I’ve seen you in clothes all weekend.” The pair laughed while Ronnie came over to his side of the bed to sit next to him. She kissed him passionately.

“This was one of the best weekends I’ve ever had. Thank you,” she whispered in his ear.

“You and me both,” he replied, kissing her back and drawing her into the bed again. She shoved him away.

“Now, you know if we get started, we’ll be late for work—well, technically you’ll be late no matter what. Don’t forget, we have a meeting this morning.”

“I hate you being right, Veronica” he said.

“Don’t you think you know me well enough to call me Ronnie now?”

Lucas grabbed her by the waist and sat her on his leg as he kissed her on the neck. “I like Veronica. It’s elegant—like you.”

She blushed. “Well, it’s flattering coming from you, so I’ll allow it. Now, get up, Austin with the stones. We have work to do.”

“I told you that in confidence!” he joked as she referenced his New York nickname.

“Haven’t you heard I’m not to be trusted? Now get that sexy chocolate ass up and get out of here!” she said with a smirk.

“Fine,” he muttered. As he put on his suit pants and socks, Ronnie laughed.

“What is it?”

“A man taking the walk of shame—very sexy,” she replied. Lucas rolled his eyes in amusement. He continued to partially dress himself in order to leave. When he was ready, she said, “You better take the back road out of here, or people will know what kind of slut you are.” She winked as he put his head down jokingly. He gave his lover a final kiss and was out the door. He raced back home in order to change. Downtown Houston had a different buzz this early in the morning. Few people were moving, allowing him to enjoy the scenery.

It took him no time to get home since he was driving against the flow of traffic. But getting back would be another story entirely. The freeway was notoriously busy, and to top it off, a major accident pushed to the side of the road further slowed traffic. When he got home, he showered, picked out a nice gray suit, and was about to leave home when he got a text from Ronnie.
